Greenside Playground is still a hot-spot among moms groups and toddlers/preschoolers. It’s shady, fenced-in, and as of March 2012, the woodchips have been replaced with rubber mulch. The equipment is all very clean and well-maintained. There are 2 sets of baby swings and 4 regular swings, as well as a toddler-friendly climbing structure with slides. Greenside is also one of the few playgrounds around with a merry go-round. Because it is completely enclosed, Greenside is one of the only playgrounds where I feel safe letting my preschool-aged twins run free!
Recommended Ages: 2-5
Slides: 2 smaller slides and 2 larger twisty ones
Climbing: bridge and crawling tunnel
Swings: 4 baby swings, 4 big swings
Park Amenities: benches, picnic tables, drinking fountain
Other Cool Stuff: merry go round, lots of shade!

This is the park where I met 2 great moms here from setting up a playground playdate through babycenter.com and we’ve been friends ever since. It is this friendship that inspired me to create this website to provide a way to connect with other moms.
The park is excellent for toddlers, and one of the few that has the old-style merry-go-rounds. It is completely fenced, has swings, slides (no restrooms though) and picnic benches. For the entire listing of Scotch Plains parks, click here
It is great to see rubber mulch being used more and more in public playground settings!
According to the CPSC’s Public Playground Safety Handbook, rubber mulch is an appropriate playground surfacing material.
It is shown that just a 6″ depth of rubber mulch will provide adequate fall protection for up to 10′-12′. With wood chips you need to start with 12″ and compact it down to 9″ min. for the same protection, whereas with rubber mulch there is no need to compact it.
