Greenwood Avenue and Chapel street, Madison NJ. What a great park, walking distance to the train station. I’m not familiar with Madison parks, but I love this playground with the central gazebo where you can keep track of the kids, mostly fenced with a rock wall, swings, slides, sandbox, and restrooms really close by. Tennis courts and a ball field are next to the playground as well. Had to pull my kids away, and it was a tough one. The sandbox has plenty of toys and the parents were friendly.
Check out Amy’s review from “The Playground Guide”:
From I-287 S take exit 37 onto NJ-24 E. Take exit 2A to Columbia Turnpike/CR 51-0W and turn left onto Park Ave. Park Ave turns into 124 or Main St Madison. Turn left onto Central Ave. Right onto Brittin and right again onto Greenwood Ave. The park is on your left.
A large fenced-in playground in an urban setting. Great sandbox with tons of toys. Hard solid rubber ground cover. Easy walking distance (3 blocks) to town and from the train station (5-6 blocks.) Newer equipment, bathrooms and some shelter make this a great day trip!

Take the train to Madison and walk to Kids Consignments for an endless supply of gently used items. Dine at The Firehouse Restaurant. On your way back treat yourself to McCools Ice Cream Parlor and shop at Miniatures & More or Alfred’s Sport Shop along the way.
This is a wonderful playground. The toddler section has lots of interesting, low, items to walk on/step between, that my daughter loved. The sandbox is huge, and my 5 year-old was thrilled with it. And the section for older kids was interesting and challenging enough to keep my 10 year old occupied for quite a while. It’s also very well fenced, which is nice with several kids there at once. the lonly issue was the lack of a parking lot. We had to walk down the street a ways.
I fully agree with the description and above comment. The only slight negatives for me were that the water fountain seemed permanently clogged with sand and that all playstructures were plastic rather than from natural materials.
Enjoy
we were very happy to find this playground, thanks to this site. we loved the shaded gazebo in the middle, where the moms could sit without baking in the summer sun. we were able to see most of the areas of the park from that vantage point.
there was enough variety for all of the kids — all boys, ranging in age from 2 to 7. the bathrooms weren’t the cleanest and there was no soap, but we were just happy to have bathrooms available.
i also love that the park is fenced.
We love this park. It’s great for both the adults and kids. The small size makes it easy to chase little ones, keep track of multiple children, and chat with other parents. The location helps turn it into an all morning outing. Before hitting the park, we normally go to Atlanta Bread or Drip for coffee + smoothies/hot chocolate, and then walk to the pet shop and check out the talking bird. Sometimes we grab ice cream at McCools too.
This is a big playground but it is completely fenced. One of our favorites.
Love this park. So much to do for the little ones (mine is 16mos)and well kept. Only negative are that the bathrooms are pretty disgusting and soap is usually nonexistent.
